Collaborative Divorce to the North
OK, I have to admit it. I almost used the words “Great White North” in the title, but decided against it. The law firm of Niren and Associates in Toronto has a good post about collaborative divorce today on their blog. Good to see Collaborative Divorce gaining momentum around the globe, as it appears to be in Massachusetts. A new practice group of collaborative professionals recently formed in Norfolk County, MA – another good sign that the collaborative process is becoming more popular with clients and practitioners alike. Pretty in Pink – The Massachusetts Divorce Financial Statement
One of the most important documents filed as part of a Massachusetts divorce is the ever-popular court financial statement. The rules surrounding financial statements are governed by Supplemental Probate Court Rule 401, or as I like to call it, Supplemental Probate Court Rule 401. There are two versions of the form, a “short form” for those with income of $75k or less, and a (much) longer form for those with – you guessed it – income over $75k. The forms are filed with the court on a lovely shade of pink paper to make it easier for Judges and court [...]
15 Critical Divorce Financial Mistakes
I found an interesting article on the website of the Association of Divorce Financial Planners by Lee Slater, a financial planner in New York City (Go Red Sox! Sorry to my NY readers, but I could not help myself). Mr. Slater’s article 15 Critical Financial Mistakes in Divorce provides numerous helpful points to anyone facing divorce. One of his critical mistakes noted is the failure to Share: Recommend on Facebook Share on google plus Share on Linkedin Tweet about it Subscribe to the comments on this post

If you are interested in a collaborative divorce, you and your spouse each have to select a trained collaborative attorney to represent your interests. The Divorce Coach (DC) = Damage Control (DC)
I recently received a comment from fellow attorney Nancy Van Tine the other day related to my post Maintain Your Divorce Sanity! Nancy’s blog is the Massachusetts Divorce Law Monitor. Nancy commented that she has never heard of a Divorce Coach, or as I sometimes refer to them in an effort to sound hip as a “DC.” Nancy is an experienced divorce lawyer in Boston, so I think it is safe to say that if she is not sure just what a DC does, then there are lots of other people that are unfamiliar as well. So, who are [...]
Maintain Your Divorce Sanity!
Everyone knows that a divorce is stressful, but there are some steps you can take to better manage the anxiety surrounding the process. I was orginally going to call this post “The Top 10 Ways to Maintain Your Divorce Sanity” but I really felt the need to have #11. I am sure there are other good suggestions that I left off this list, so please send along any other suggestions. Also, this post assumes you were mostly sane prior to your divorce commencing. Well, here we go: 1. Realize that your divorce is your divorce. It is not your [...]
In Some Cases We Can’t Just All Get Along
While I agree with my esteemed colleague’s post below that for many divorcing couples mediation is a less expensive, more efficient option that assists spouses in making informed choices and empowers them to create equitable agreements, mediation is not for everyone. In some cases, either collaborative law or divorce litigation is the better option. In my own practice, I have seen several divorce cases where mediation would not have been the best choice. So, is mediation right for you? Share: Recommend on Facebook Share on google plus Share on Linkedin Tweet about it Subscribe to the comments on this post

New Kid on the Block – Collaborative Divorce
Despite steady increases in popularity in both the U.S. and internationally, many people have yet to hear the term “collaborative divorce.” Collaborative divorce is considered a relatively new alternative for couples to resolve their dispute respectfully without going to court. Also, let me disclose right up front that I am a fan of the collaborative process (although you probably determined that already from the title of this blog) and I am on the Board of Directors of the Massachusetts Collaborative Law Council. In a collaborative divorce, each party has their own lawyer that has received specialized training in the collaborative [...]
